Using Jugs to Bag Catfish

Would you like to learn how to snag a ridiculous number of catfish, why don’t you consider using jug lines? Catfish jug fishing is an incredible way to maximize your time on the water, and tocatch an enormous amount of catfish. When we go out, many times we will deploy over twenty jug lines to pull in the fish. There in lies one of the secrets why using jugs outperforms typical rod and reel fishing, the large increase in hooks and bait in the body of water.

If you have ever wanted to pick up catch blue catfish, using 4 to 6 inch live or dead shad on a heavy twine or leader line with a circle hook will yield the maximum results. My personal favorite bait to use is live perch. Often we will take the perch, and do a one half to two thirds fillet down one side, to put some scent and blood into the water, to draw in the big fish. If yellow catfish is what you are after, you’ll definitely want to consider using perch to catch them.

We will get our jugs and put them amongst a bunch of stumps or other submerged cover, and secure the jugs to the stumps. We have never been skunked using this method. Usually we’ll bring in anywhere from 20-50 pounds of fish every day we run the lines, and we will typically re-bait the lines two times a day. This is an excellent way to catch some very nice catfish.
