How Your Profile Can Be Posted Online Against Your Will

If you thought you would never have your profile posted on the Internet then think again. As we speak your profile is probably accessible in thousands on literally thousands of website. If you want to know how you possibly got there read this article.

I know a couple of people who say they will never have share their identity with anyone online. In fact a colleague of mine once told me that she actually emailed Google and ask them to remove her picture, which showed up in their image results every time someone did a search using a name similar to hers. Google complied but like I had told her, that was not the end of it.

I called her up a few weeks later and told her about some few sites that were showing the picture and then she decided to stop fighting the inevitable.

So how can you find yourself showing up on the Internet?

Government records

There are a number of government records that can be used to find people free online. These may have some of your personal details and more.

School records

If you’ve ever went to school then your name probably is accessible online.

Social networks

Do you have friends and do they have Facebook profiles? If so then they have probably written a few things about you as their friend. Facebook lets users find a person free on their site

Newspapers and journals

Do you feature in local and international newspapers and other media? Then chances are those publications have an online version where they have also posted their article in. People use these to find people for free though going through some archived stories.

Don’t think that just because you are not showing up in Google when you search for your name that your profile hasn’t found its way on to the web. Some of the site do not allow Search engines to index them so your profile may be hidden from Google but anyone who has access to the site where it is located can easily find it.
